Puppy grooming
A puppy groom is not just a pretty haircut. It is early coat care that prevents matting, builds confidence and helps your puppy feel safe in the salon for life.
Your puppy can visit us once they have completed their full course of vaccinations and at least 14 days have passed since the final vaccination.
The first appointment is a socialisation session. We introduce the salon sounds, table, brushes, bath and dryer at your puppy's pace.
Starting early helps prevent matting, teaches good grooming habits and lets us show you the right brushing routine for your puppy's coat.
The first puppy appointment usually takes about one hour, though we always work at your puppy's individual pace.
We normally recommend the next appointment around five to six weeks later, or sooner if your puppy needs extra familiarisation.
What to expect
We strongly recommend introducing your puppy to professional grooming as early as possible. The earlier they become familiar with the salon environment, the easier it is for them to build confidence, learn what to expect and develop positive grooming habits for life.
Your puppy's first appointment is primarily a gentle introduction and socialisation session. We take our time allowing them to become familiar with the sounds and smells of the salon, being handled, brushes and combs, grooming tools, the grooming table, bathing and the sound and sensation of the dryer.
During this appointment, your puppy will normally have a bath and blow-dry, Face, Feet & Bum tidy, nail trim and hygiene area tidy.
We do not recommend a full haircut during the first appointment. There are already lots of new experiences for your puppy to process, and introducing everything at once can be overwhelming. Our priority is to make their first grooming experience calm, positive and stress-free.
The first puppy appointment usually takes around one hour, although we always work at your puppy's individual pace.
Starting professional grooming early can also help prevent matting, which is extremely common in puppy coats, particularly as the coat begins to change.
Your groomer can assess your puppy's individual coat type and show you how to brush and maintain it correctly at home between appointments, including which areas need particular attention and which tools are best suited to your puppy.
This can prevent small tangles from developing into painful mats and makes future grooming appointments much more comfortable for your dog.
Early and regular visits benefit both your puppy and your groomer. Your puppy gradually learns that grooming is a normal part of life, while your groomer has the opportunity to build trust with them before more extensive grooming is required.
We normally recommend the next appointment approximately 5–6 weeks later. If your puppy's coat needs attention sooner, or they would benefit from another familiarisation visit, you are always welcome to book earlier.
The sooner your puppy starts their grooming journey, the easier it is to build good habits that can last a lifetime.
